Edwin Liu is is an artist, designer, and educator that lives in Brooklyn, NY. His practice operates in the mediums of sculptural objects and digital images, utilizing computationally generated forms and fabrication techniques, combined with analog methods of production.
Edwin draws upon his background in architecture to create art that examines industrial form, space-making, the aesthetics of utility, the function of ornament, and the visual abstraction and representation of architecture. The ceramic vessels he makes are vaguely functional, mostly sculptural, and push back on the notion that form follows function. He is interested in combining traditional, analog form-making techniques with digital tools in unexpected ways to realize forms that are the result of imperfect, manual processes.
Edwin has been a Lecturer at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute School of Architecture since 2013, and a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Pratt Institute School of Architecture since 2022, where he teaches architectural design, drawing, and computational visualization courses.
